During this time animals are converge on the Southern plains of the Serengeti, around Nauru and the North of the Ngorongoro area. In February, you can witness the wildebeest calving at these areas.
The great Northern Migration occurs within these months as the animals move towards the Central Serengeti Plains and Seronera, in search for fresh water and luscious grass to graze upon. As the rain stops, the herds now splinter with the majority of the wildebeest pushing north toward the Mara River, while the herds moving to the Serengeti western corridor.
The wildebeest migration continues moving northwards through July and August, it spreads out across a broad front, with some heading through the Grumeti Rserve and Ikorongo, others north through the heart of the Serengeti National Park
During this time it is posible to watch the herds of the wildebeest migration crossing the Mara Rive. The scenes are often of great panic and confusion as the wildebeest fight for their survival.
The movement will stop for almost three weeks at their promissed land of Maasai Mara, but unfortunately the short rains begin again in early November, stiring the migration to return to the short grass plains of the southern Serengeti.
